Don't Run With Scissors

Sometimes I forget what I haven't taught the younger kids. I've been teaching the same things over and over for so long that sometimes it's hard to remember who got what lesson.

Turns out I got the don't run with scissors covered, but not the what not to use scissors on. Like NOT on your hair.

Here is what Amy looked like before the cut.

AND AFTER

the front

the left side

the right side

this is not remorse...this is boredom from so many pictures

This one's for posterity.
I'm thinking wedding slide show.

I asked why she cut her hair. You know, to torment myself a little further. She looked at me with her little smirky face and mischievously said, "because I thought it was paper." I think steam escaped my ears. The worst part of this whole thing? I wasn't even doing anything fun like reading a book or writing a blog when it happened. I was pulling ingredients for dinner and asked her to go in the other room and get me the nail polish, so we could play "salon" as soon as I finished dinner. That didn't turn out so well.

THE AFTER

That is with the help of a salon and a whole new wardrobe of headbands. I don't expect to see her without one for at least 2 years. Her hair grows slow. Really slow which is why I cried for about an hour that day. (Kyra is 1.5 years younger and easily had two inches more than Amy.)

Tara told me she is planning to grow her hair out, cut it, and send it to Locks of Love. Why I asked? Her response, "that way they can make a wig for Amy, and she will actually have hair in Kindergarten".

Yep.

Good plan.

she cut it again? I don't remember it being so short at the wedding! ...before the salon professionals stepped in, as I have had them do when I tried to color myself (another talk you'll need to have w/the girls later), she had a TRUE mullet. nice :)

Tara is too funny!

My sister cut her bangs off once as a kid and her response to my mom freaking out was to say, "Mom, it was just a joke." I'm sure you aren't surprised to hear that my mom didn't find it all that amusing.

Tamara,
Yep this is the second cut in less than two weeks. Jeez that girl is gonna be the death of me.

Laura,
I am so truly sorry! I know how slow her hair grows! I promise I will work on some hair things for her. At least she has the looks to pull off a hair cut like that! And the pic of her looking through the scissors gave me a great laugh! Let me know if you need anything!

i can laugh... cause I am not the mom. AND one day you will laugh too when its on the wedding slide show followed quickly with another picture a few years later where its grown in. :) But really i would have cried too at the time!! When Theo was one he had beautiful hair down to his chin that i hadnt cut because I loved it.. ( even though people thought he was a girl all the time) Porter snipped off one side and i had to cut Theo's whole head short and I was heartbroken.. and this was my BOY!! I can only imagine how upset i would be if i had a girl. Bless her little heart.. my hair grows the same speed and I can only hope her hair has grown out some before she is old enough to be sad that its so short! at least she seems indifferent to it now, it would be worse if she was crying all the time about her new do!

I guess Aubrey has one less reason to be jealous of Amy.

Except for Aubrey's curls, they're rockin' the same 'do.

So sorry Laura. :(

That sucks! I think we've been blessed by having a grandma that cuts hair, I told my kids the only person who touches scissors to their hair is grandma and somehow they've obeyed! :)

A wig for Amy...now that is true sisterly love. And man how I love those freckles of hers.

As for the new do...she looks darn cute! For sure looks better post-salon. Props to them. Now we'll all just keep our fingers crossed that it grows in sooner than later. :)

"I thought it was paper" WOW. She is a clever one. And cute as can be with short hair.

Oh, Laura, I feel your pain! We're 3 weeks out from Aiden's hair cutting incident and I'm still not happy. We'll get pictures of the two at Thanksgiving. Jell-O. Lots of Jell-O...supposedly the gelatin helps hair grow stronger, although not much faster. She's getting close enough in age to do real hair extensions though... ;) UGH. I hate when kids do these things to us! Aiden keeps looking at himself in the mirror and telling me his hair is "all gone" and it's as if he's aware he's not near as cute. So SAD! He says he misses his "spikey hair". Me too. Hugs from Houston!

Oh no! I would have cried too. Lucky for me Kaia has never cut her hair but I messed up on it one time and cried and cried. Her hair grows really slow too. Amy is such a beautiful little girl. She doesn't need a lot of hair. =c)

I am so sorry. I would have cried too. But that isn't saying much. I still have escaped the hair cutting. I hope that my luck continues. She does look really cute with a headband.

Wow. Amy sure did a number. And I know how it feels because Juliette did the same thing about a month and a half ago. We are doing the headband thing too. Here's hoping her hair grows back in sooner than later and that she never cuts her own hair again. She is so adorable with those big blue eyes and cute freckles, that who would pay attention to her short hair? Hugs!

Yikes!!! So sorry! With boys you can just buzz 'em. My mother swears by Lecithin for speeding up hair growth, FYI...

Tara is awesome!

And so sad. I dread Miss Libby doing that!

Kudos to Tara, she is looking out for her little sis! Amy, you are such a nut! She is still adorable, crazy hair and all.

She and Juliette can be twinkies! (that means twins) I love all the up-close shots because I never knew she had such charming freckles. What a cute girl, hair or no hair.

Sweet mother of pearl, she went to town with those scissors! I get sick to my stomach when my girls get too much hair whacked off (no idea why...as if it matters) and that's when a professional is doing it for them, so I understand the tears!
