Remember when you were 15 and couldn't go anywhere without your parents? Remember how you were literally counting down the days until you got your license?
Ahhhhhh, not being able to drive. It's so...limiting.
But then if I could drive there wouldn't be conversations like this...
"Hey Mom, can you take me to Wal-Mart so I can buy a Christmas gift for my boyfriend...I mean husband?"
"Sure honey."

My Belly Button Hurts
I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that fact since I just had an umbilical hernia repaired a few days ago. I am though. You would think when the surgeon told me I couldn't lift anything over 10 lbs for a month, I would have also assumed that I would be sore. Funny that I thought I would just pop up and be back to normal as soon as I woke up.
I've made it past the teeth chattering side effect of the anesthesia which was so, so fun. I've never been more cold or miserable.
I'm still sore. Not, "Wow, they cut open my abs and now it hurts to breath," but more like "Oh, I have an open wound, let's not touch it."
With that improvement, I might have mentioned that my belly button hurts maybe once or twice or sixty times in the past few days. Enough for my parrot, Amy, to walk around the house saying, "mine bel-wee button herts," while doing this:
Thanks for all the well wishes.
I'm doing fine!
( Because my mom is doing everything I normally do and then some while I sit here typing. I might not ever get well! Except Kyra won't let me hug her anymore, she only wants my mom. That stinks. I think I will get better soon so she'll give me some sugar.)
But I'm still sore.

Eric's surgery
I took Eric into his doctor appointment to check range of motion and to schedule his surgery. They took x-rays and thought the arm looked great. That is when the surprise came. "We'd like to do the surgery tomorrow morning."
Um.
That would be fine if we didn't live out of town, if I had actually packed for an overnight stay, if I had babysitters for my other four kids, if my husband was in the same town, if I hadn't left one child in a different town at school, if I wasn't supposed to babysit the next day, etc. The list went on and on.
We did the surgery anyway because with a cell phone, wonderful friends, and a great family ANYTHING is possible.
The medicine they gave Eric to calm him down did the opposite. I have only seen him this wound up on Christmas morning.
Um.
