I'm a pretty good cook. Nothing exceptional, but the food I make is good. I find it insulting when people (my children) put ketchup on the food I make. Look, here's the deal children, if I make a roast, I will season it well enough that it won't need ketchup. There is a reason why the ketchup isn't on the table. It isn't an appropriate condiment or with the volume you use, side dish. Don't ask for me to get it out of the fridge.
Here's the problem. My husband likes ketchup on roast. It is how he was raised. (Quick disclaimer: his mother is a great cook. She's just a lot more patient than me.) Why ruin a good piece of meat with tomato, vinegar and sugar? I'll make a nice roast or pork loin and my kids will sneer and swear it is the grossest thing they have ever had to taste. Put ketchup on the table and the exact same piece of meat is suddenly their favorite dinner and gets rave reviews.
So what's a girl to do? I think I will have to learn patience and let my future daughter in laws fight this fight. I'm apologizing in advance.

Kalena loves ketchup, so I have not informed her yet that some people eat it on eggs. Because I think that's gross.
heck, i like ketchup with just about any meat, too. or bbq sauce...
Nathaniel feels the same way, especially when it comes to steak. You shouldn't have to put A1 sauce on it! I grew up in a family that uses things with meat whether A1 or bbq sauce or my mom always has chili sauce with roast. I am happy with gravy on my roast or turkey. I have learned to appreciate a steak, when cooked right, for just the seasonings on it. :)
Have fun with the Ketchup battle. :)
LOL! My dad is just like you. He used to get so insulted when I would bust out the ketchup for my roast. Haha! This post made me laugh.
Fortunately, no one in our family is a big ketchup fan, but I love to have homemade chili sauce with roast and don't really enjoy roast without it. So I guess it is is just what you grow up with.
If you come make me a roast I promise not to put any ketchup on it....
Seriously Ketchup on roast...gross!
We have this same battle. I have a couple of kids that will put ketchup on anything. I've decided it's not really a battle I want to always have. If the meat already has a sauce no ketchup is allowed (because that's just gross) but if it's roast or something that didn't come in a sauce (yeah, I know, it really did) then they can use ketchup so that they'll eat faster and won't be sitting, sulking at the table an hour later. I figure a little dip isn't too bad if it helps the meal get down...
But, it is insulting! :)
I would just let them have the ketchup too. If it gets them to eat it then I'm happy. :)
