Dinner Guests? What Dinner Guests?

Seriously, how do you forget that you are having the missionaries coming over for dinner? (even after they call to confirm)

I didn't remember until Jared walked through the door and announced, "I'm on my way to go pick up the missionaries."

What?!?

Great, I have 7 minutes to clean the kitchen and living room and figure out how to stretch the 8x8 casserole dinner that barely feeds our family into enough food to feed an additional two hungry 20 yr old men.

Solution. I did the unthinkable. I served from the box macaroni and cheese, and left the house dirty.

Outcome. The kids were ecstatic because they got to opt out of chicken and broccoli in exchange for mac and cheese. And surprisingly, the Elders went for what we affectionately call "yellow death".

Who knew?

Ah, clean houses and gourmet dinners are over-rated anyway! I bet you made the Elders feel right at home.

We always ask the missionaries what they want and on one occasion they requested grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm sure they enjoyed their "yellow death." :)

Awesome! That's hilarious, because you know they were offended at all, they probably loved it!

You're so brave to feed the missionaries AND all those kiddos. Where do you put them all?

Feeding the missionaries always stresses me out.

We can't even feed the missionaries in this area unless we have an investigator over for dinner, as well, OR if we feed them BEFORE 5:00 p.m. I'm sure our missionaries would be knocking down your door for a little "yellow death." I think it beats what they'd make on their own...Ramen Noodles.

You are so funny. That would be me totally forgetting to feed the missionaries. good thing they are guys and will eat anything. Funny they had a chance to get a home cooked meal and went for the mac. What is that about?

Yellow death...I like it. We might have to adopt that name. Yeah my kids love it except Emma she hates it. Normally that would be a good thing except for the nights when I just don't have time I can't make it because she hates it. Can't say I blame her.

Who doesn't love a little yellow death every now and then?! At our house it's called Mac in the Cheese.

I always forget the missionaries are coming over. I figure, if they don't call the day before to confirm (so I can thaw meat...run to the store, etc.) then it's anyone's guess what we'll eat. The missionaries who don't call ahead get a lot of pizza. One time I even just sent it to their apartment.

My husband does this to me all the time. I am glad to see that I am not the only one. The longer I have been married the more I realize that men are A LOT alike. =c) I am glad that everything worked out and thank goodness for some Mac 'n Cheese, right?

Hope you don't mind me stopping by now and then! I find myself wandering over to your blog occasionally to read your humorous and honest take on family life!
I love this idea of how to stretch a meal for unexpected dinner guests! Gotta love Kraft!

LOL - that is hillarious. Mac and Cheese is always a sure bet. My aunt calls it "crack for kids" - I guess that could apply to missionaires too :)
