Gung Hay Fat Choy

We celebrated the Chinese New Year for Family Home Evening.

We had super authentic Chinese food (*cough* frozen stir fry veggies with chicken and white rice). The kids ate with chopsticks which was the entertainment portion of the evening...

Amy the Walrus

no wonder dinner takes so long...one grain at a time.

Eric gave up and decided plate licking was also a Chinese tradition

hands are helpful...

Ah, sweet success....

We also made Chinese lanterns, but there were too many tears over who got to use the stapler first to share pictures with you.

The best part? Indoor fireworks (poppers!)

Yep, lots of fun.

I've often thought that I should go on a "chopstick diet," wherein I have to eat all my food with chopsticks. I know I'd eat more slowly and eat less, and I wouldn't be able to eat evil things like ice cream.

Tara looks TINY in those pajamas! Love the walrus.

I am just glad the walrus was in the mouth. At my house it just might have been the nose.

That is one of the cutest ideas. I might have to steal it next year.

Love it! At first glance I thought the chopsticks were coming out of Amy's nose!

Tara's one grain of rice at a time reminds me of my first afternoon in Japan. We were taught that we had to eat every piece of rice off of our plate (otherwise it's rude and wasteful). Going to my first area we stopped at a fast food place and I spent 20 minutes trying to eat every piece, one at a time. My companion eventually had enough enjoyment at my expense so he finally told me that the fast food workers really don't care. Maybe at someone's house, but not fast food.

We did this for FHE too! I found a cool website that you can find out what year you were born in and what the means about you in general. Here is the link http://www.apples4theteacher.com/holidays/chinese-new-year/ Maybe it is too long to fit, but it had some cute stuff on there! The "walrus" pic is my favorite! We werent' brave enough for chopsticks . . .
