Did you know it is possible to be locked out of your house with your keys in your hand? Yep, it's true.
This morning I got a phone call from a friend to go walk at the park. I never want to turn down the opportunity to converse with someone about things that aren't part of an animated series like Disney Fairies or GI Joes, so I went.
We walked until the girls in the jogging stroller were close to fist fights (kidding, kinda). Then I went home.
I walked up to the door, unlocked it, and pushed it open. It wouldn't budge because I had forgotten to undo the flip lock. (That's what I get for sneaking out the garage door without the garage door opener.) You probably remember that Ian likes to escape hence the flip lock and the key locks on all our gates. These safety measures make it impossible for me to get into the backyard to unlock the backdoor without jumping the fence.
I have to get to the backyard fence to climb over. At this point I've run/walked for 40 minutes with my friend, and chased Ian back from the park twice. I'm tired and cold, so I decided to walk toward the cul-de-sac and lift the stroller, Amy, Ian, and his scooter over the half fence just to save walking an extra 4 houses. It seemed like a good idea until I lifted the stroller halfway over the fence and realized that it is really heavy and awkward. Dang, being lazy just made my life even harder, who knew?
Eventually we made it to our back gate. I climbed to the top of our fence and glanced down. It is seemed too far to jump. I mumbled something like "this is a bad idea." When Ian yelled up to me, "Don't do it Mommy. It is a bad idea! It's dangerous." I just went for it. I felt young for about 1/16th of a second until I hit the hard dirt, feet first at least. Ok, then I stumbled a bit and had to catch myself with my hands, but no one saw that.
So, if you want to laugh just picture a 30 yr old woman with 3 kids walking in an alley and jumping over fences, for fun.

Sorry to leave you hanging like that :0) I wouldn't have been much help though since I am the same age as you and not as spry as I used to be! It sure would have been funny to watch though! haha
How did you leave the house if the flip lock was still locked?
glad you survived! :)
Had I known I could have helped out. Maybe given you a boost or something? Ha!
I had to quickly jumping over our fenct a few months ago (to put out a grass fire that I accidently/on purpose lit)and realized the same thing. A 6 foot jump is a lot more painful in the joints now than when I was 12.
LOL - you are hillarious. just picturing it made my day - I am so glad that you are safe and sound and not locked out of your house anymore.
I was so afraid you were going to end up with a broken leg, or foot, or arm, you know like you did when you a kid!
I had to jump over our fence to retrieve a ball when the house next door to us was vacant (thank you Christian)...and I swear, it felt like I pulled something! I was definitely walking a little funny for a day or so after that.
:0)
I use to jump of our deck, and down the stairs. I did about 4 stairs the other day to show JJ and Emma how fun it is. Yeah not so fun anymore. What is that about anyway? Seriously I think I am 20 but oh don't you worry this body of mine won't let me forget that I am 32. I feel for you!
I cannot stand flip locks! Did you know it is also possible to be locked in your house because they swing too far and get caught between the door and the jamb, wedging the door shut? All of ours are duct taped open.
