Times I've wished Jared was home...

So Jared has been at Scout Camp for the week, and the kids and I have been "roughin-it" here at home.

Saturday June 7th 6pm (8 hrs gone):
I was vacuuming the van to prepare for our "special treat" of going to a drive-in movie for the very first time. We were getting ready to see Kung Fu Panda. What a nice Mom am I to plan such a fun night for the kids since Daddy was gone? How do I get rewarded? I know you are all jumping up and down waiting to answer the question with things such as: 1000s of thank yous, Huge hugs, Slobbery kisses, etc. However, you would be wrong. I walked back into the house to a chorus of screaming and fighting and a huge mess. I started whipping things into shape and directing clean up traffic so we could go to the movie. We made it to the boys room and I found a large section of carpet by the floor that was now a strange shade of lime green. I could feel the frustration begin to boil over!

I called the kids together to see what had happened. Apparently to keep themselves busy while I vacuumed, they did an experiment. I'm all for experiments...in the kitchen or bathroom. I sprayed the area with 409 Carpet Cleaner and went to get a rag. That is when I noticed that Amy was now dyed green too from her mouth, down her neck and onto her chest. Great! I had to get specific ingredients of the experiment to determine if poison control needed to be involved.

Turns out this experiment included water, soap, lip gloss, toothpaste, water dye tablets (1 blue and 5 yellows hence our green concoction). It was mixed in a dixie cup and then hidden under the bathroom sink. (That cupboard has a child saftey lock that has been yanked on so many times that the screws are stripped and it doesn't lock correctly. That is how Amy got it.) I assumed that Amy was probably fine without the aid of poison control.

RESOLUTION

Oh, 409 is really good at removing green dye! However I wasn't so sure this was going to be a good week. We were off to a rough start.

Sunday June 8th 9am (23 hrs gone):

I woke up Sunday morning ready to have a great day despite the fact that we didn't get home from the movie and get everyone in bed and asleep until after 11:30pm. It was Sunday and all we had to get through was 1 hour of sacrament meeting and that is no big deal! ;) Anyway, we are getting breakfast and I walk by the back to see a whole in the dry wall. Someone, Amy, had pulled the door stopper out of the wall without my knowledge. Someone else, Tara, Eric, or Ian, slammed the door open hard enough to put a whole in the wall.

RESOLUTION
Let's face it, I'm good, but I'm not good enough to want to patch dry wall and paint on a Sunday morning. That will just have to wait for Jared!

Monday June 9th 3:30pm (53 1/2 hrs gone):

Kristen, Catherine, Hannah, and Eve drove to Midland to spend the day with us. It was so much fun to have some adult interaction again! We were having a pretty smooth day until we put the kids wet swimsuits into the laundry room. That doesn't sound like that big of a deal, and normally it isn't. However, this time the laundry room door fell off. It is a bifold door and I knew I needed to get it back on its track and its hinges or my kids would find a way to get hurt. I worked on it for about 15 minutes and uttered a few too many "craps" along the way. The next day I heard a few repeated for my benefit!

RESOLUTION
I now know how to reattach a bi-folding door. I can even do it with a bunch of dripping wet kids running around underneath my feet. Try that Dad!

We must have finally gotten into the swing of things because that was our last major episode and Jared comes home tomorrow!

How on earth do you keep your cool. I need lessons. You are awesome. You need to get a treat after this. Have Jared take you for ice cream or something. You really are such an amazing example to me. Thanks for that. Your kids make me chuckle.

Times like this really make you grateful you're not doing it alone on a full-time basis!

Always an adventure around your house, huh! So how did the kids like the drive-in movie?
