Eating My Words

Saturday Jared helped his dad do Lee High School's prom. It is quite the process with setup taking several hours, a few hours of mixing music, and then take down. He asked a friend in the ward to help him. When Elsha called to watch a movie together Saturday night, since our husbands were out watching teenagers dance; I thought it would be a lot of fun. We picked a chick flick that our husbands were only too happy to let us watch together so they didn't have to watch with us.

Elsha showed up about nine and Tara still didn't want to go to bed. She wanted to be a part of the action. I was getting frustrated and so I said, "Tara the next time you come out of bed you better be throwing up or pooping your pants!" Of course this didn't sound enticing, so Tara finally stayed in bed. Elsha and I enjoyed the movie and visiting some after it was over. We stayed up way to late! Anyway, it was about 1am when I finally went to bed, and I was really tired.

About 2:30am Tara comes into my room crying, "Mommy, my tummy hurts. I think I'm going to throw up!" We go to the bathroom where I hold her hair back and sure enough, she pukes. Poor kid. I got her a barf bucket and sent her back to bed to try and get some sleep.

About 4:00am Tara comes into my room, again, crying, "Mommy, my tummy hurts. I think I have diarrhea." I send her into the bathroom, again. This time I waited in my bed for her to call or get me when she was done. She came back in. "Mom, I need new underwear because I got some poop in mine." I helped her get some clean things on and was rocking her and talking softly to help her calm down.

"Tara," I asked, "what is going on?" With the innocence only a child half asleep can muster she replied, "Mom, I think it is because of what you told me...that if I wanted to come see you again I would have to throw up or poop my pants."

I knew that words were more powerful than the sword, but I didn't realize that mine were more powerful than Tara's digestive system! I need a leash for this tongue of mine! She has been perfectly fine ever since.

Wow - that is just too scary. I'll try to remember not to say that one. Was the movie good?
